Angelo Sakellaropoulos stopped 36 shots en route to his 3rd shootout of the season. Anthony Domico, Eric Foulk and Eric Szafranski each scored twice and John Mejia and Jonathon Sakellaropoulos also netted goals for the Huskies.

Eric Tien, Mitchell MacLeod and Andrew Richard all scored for the Icehawks as they shutout the Inferno led by a great goaltending effort by Joe Kirkland. The shutout was his first of the season and his 7th victory.

Michigan Ice Dogs 4 – Motor City Chiefs 1

The Ice Dogs came away victorious as Todd Burgess, Alex Wojnar, Kurtis Kwolek and Shane Olson all scored. Nicholas Bates got the lone goal for the Chiefs. Andrew Bray got the victory in goal.

The Mountain Cats got a victory in their last home game of the regular season at the Ice Mountain Arena Complex. Captain Alex Toth started the scoring and David Pierce, Travis Williams and Travis Tamez also scored for the Cats. Zachary Macleod, David Ludwig and James Odom scored for the Icehawks. Jacob Bono recorded his 13th victory of the season in goal.

Frederick Kowalski scored two goals including the game winner with 35 seconds left in overtime to lift the Ice Dogs over the Chiefs at Canfield Ice Arena. Hazen Ripple and Richard Kozma also scored for the Ice Dogs. Joe Byrne, Tim Hunter and Brandon Greulich scored for the Chiefs. Andrew Bray got his 6th victory in net for the Ice Dogs.

Illinois concluded the weekend with another victory over the Ice Dogs. Roger Phelps scored twice and Ryan Newton, Ryan Martin, Matt Beton, Evan Leuchtmann and Carlos Galvan also scored for the Frontenacs. The Ice Dogs got goals from Jamie Harris, Kurtis Kwolek and Joseph Duoba. Corey Rickermann got his 2nd victory of the weekend.

Motor City Chiefs 5 – Chicago Huskies 4 Shootout

The Chiefs got a big road victory over the Huskies at the International Ice Arena. Nickolas Bates scored the only and winning goal in the shootout. Joe Byrne, Miguel Rodriguez, Brett Carpani and Jordan Wasielewski also scored for the Chiefs. Chicago got two goals each from Cameron Koziarz and Brennon Koedding. Eric Trunick got the victory in goal while stopping all five shootout attempts.

Danville got another home win over the Ice Dogs. Robert Bann had another two goal game and Anthony Cantalupo, Cory Asimus and Taylor Bearistro also scored for the Inferno. Richard Kozma and Shane Olson scored for the Ice Dogs. Jesse DiLillo got his 6th victory in goal, his 2nd of the weekend.

Illinois Frontenacs 2 – Motor City Chiefs 1

Migual Franco and David O’Connell scored for Illinois at the U.S. Ice Center. The Chiefs rallied back with a goal by Marcos Madrigal and peppered 21 shots in the 3rd period on Frontenac goalie Corey Rickermann. Rickermann stopped 47 shots for his 9th victory of the season.

Danville came from behind, scoring 5 straight goals for a home win at the Palmer Ice Arena. Robert Bann and Cameron Hughes each scored twice. Cory Asimus, Anthony Cantalupo and Bryan Maclean also scored for the Inferno. Nicholas Bates netted two goals for the Chiefs. Jordan Wasielewski, Christian Sauer and Conner Dresser also netted goals. Chicago took the lead in the 3rd period and never looked back at the International Ice Arena. Eric Foulk and Cody Glickman led the charge with two goals each. Other Huskies scorers were Josh Baker, Brennon Koedding, John Mejia and Cameron Koziarz. The Ice Dogs were led by a pair of goals from Shane Olson. Derek Bennion, Steven Hickson and Alex Wojnar also got in on the scoring. Nicholas Bonin got his 11th victory of the season.

Michigan Mountain Cats 3 – Tri City Icehawks 2

David Pierce scored with 20 seconds left in regulation to beat the Icehawks at the Midland Arena. Travis Williams and Rick Lawrence also scored for the Cats. Andrew Richard and Mitchell Macleod scored for the Icehawks. Jacob Bono had another solid effort in net while getting his 12th victory of the season.

MOTOR CITY CHIEFS CREATES NEW JUNIOR SPRING LEAGUE

The Motor City Chiefs Junior Hockey Club Inc. is starting the first ever spring league for interested junior level hockey players. The season will consist of a 10 game, 5 week schedule and a playoff & finals weekend. The season will start April 10 and conclude the weekend of May 15. The mission of this league is to give interested players an opportunity to see first hand what juniors is as well as the level of play before the tryout start around the country. The teams will consist of 16 players which includes two goalies, 2 35 minute stop time periods using Junior Hockey rules. “We feel this is the best way to give potential players the opportunity to see what Juniors is about” said Gerry Lullove owner of the MCC. Cost is $300.00 per player or $4400.00 for a team entry. Individual players will be placed on a team. “We are excited about being able to provide this opportunity for all the players in the area and interest is growing with inquiries from Windsor and Ohio”. All games will be played at the Canfield Arena, home of the Motor City Chiefs. Deadline for registration is April 1.

The Mountain Cats ended the Frontenacs winning streak by starting their own streak with a 4-2 victory at the U.S. Ice Center. Jonathan Lemaire started the scoring and David Salazar netted the game winner on a powerplay. David Pierce extended his league high points to 58 with three assists in the game. Other Mountain Cats scorers were Jared Justice and Alex Toth. David O’Connell and Evan Leuchtmann chipped in goals for the Frontenacs. Jacob Bono got his league leading 11th victory of the season in net.

Jonathon Sakellaropoulos scored with 13 seconds left in overtime to beat the Inferno. Anthony Domico scored twice along with Eric Szafranski for the Huskies. Anthony Cantalupo scored twice and Robert Bann netted another for Danville. Nicholas Bonin was back in net for the Huskies and received his 10th victory of the season.

Michigan Ice Dogs 5 – Motor City Chiefs 3

The Ice Dogs beat the Chiefs at the Plymouth Cultural Center. Richard, Kozma, Derek Bennion, Hazen Ripple, Zack Standifer and Shabe Olson scored for the Ice Dogs. The Chiefs were lead by goals from Ian Miller, Cameron Dimmitt, and Jordan Wasielewski. Andrew Bray got his 5th victory in goal.

The Mountain Cats lead by Jacob Bono’s outstanding performance beat the Frontenacs 2-0. Bono stopped 33 saves for his first shutout of the season. Chase Conney scored his first goal of the season and Jonathan Lemaire scored the insurance goal late in the 3rd period.

Chicago scored 7 times by six players. Eric Szafranski scored twice and John Mejia, Jonathon Sakellaropoulos, Steven Wenkel, James Bohne, and Eric Turton also scored. Joe McSweeney got the shutout in net, his second of the season, while stopping 23 Danville shots.

Eric Fletcher and Christian Sauer also scored for the Chiefs. James Olden scored the lone goal for the Icehawks. Eric Trunick got the victory in net to improve to 2-0 for the Chiefs.

Chicago got back on track with a victory over Illinois. Jonathon Sakellaropoulos lead off the scoring and had two goals as did Tony Domico. Brennan Koedding had a goal and Eric Szafranski had three and Eric Foulk also added a goal. Tony Domico’s solid weekend put him in the scoring lead with 23 goals and 48 points. Angelo Sakellaropoulos stopped 19 of 21 shots en route to the victory. John Sellmam and Sean Begley scored for Illinois.

Michigan Ice Dogs 5 – Tri City Icehawks 1

Michigan Ice Dog Kurtis Kwolek had two goals and Shane Olson, Derek Bennion and Frederick Kowalski also netted goals as the Ice Dogs never looked back. Andrew Richard netted another late goal for the Icehawks to spoil Joseph DesJardins shutout bid.

The Mountain Cats moved into fourth place tonight with a win over the Inferno. New addition Shawn Lee lead the charge with two goals including the game winner along with two goals each from Jonathan Lemaire and Cameron Birrell. Cameron Hughes had a great night for Danville scoring all four of their goals. Jacob Bono got his 8th win of the season in net and David Pierce had three assists and is now leading the GLJHL in scoring with 41 points.

David Pierce scored twice for the Mountain Cats along with a goal each from Cameron Birrell, David Salazar and the game winner from Jonathan Lemaire. New addition Shawn Lee had an assist in his first game with the Mountain Cats. The Inferno had two goals from Taylor Beairsto and a goal from Matthew Benton. Kevin Schaefer got his 2nd win of the season with a solid performance in net. The win put the Mountain Cats in a tie for 4th place with 31 points with the Michigan Ice Dogs.

The GLJHL will have 9 teams next season. The board has approved two new franchises in Wisconsin. The Pleasant Prairie Rampage and the Central Wisconsin Saints. Next season the GLJHL will field teams in Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin. 2009 is shaping up to be a great year for this junior league.
